Hello, Elys!
Wanted to let all of you know that I will be leaving on a much needed summer vacation July 11th and I'll be travelling to Australia and New Zealand! I'll be gone for 6 weeks (until August 22nd) and I'll try to post about my adventures Down Under as much as possible.
Some details about my trip:
1. I'll be starting at the top of Australia (in Cairns) and will be snorkeling at the Great Barrier Reef! I bought an underwater camera today to document all the fishies!
2. From there, I have a free form idea of where I'll be going, I have about a month to get to Melbourne in the south and then 12 days to get from the southern part of NZ to the tippy top. I'll be staying in a combination of hostels and with friends.
3. I will be visiting my best friend, Liz, for about a week (she is studying at the Australian National University in Canberra) but the rest of the time I will be on my own.
4. I will be sure to stop in well lit areas. Promise.
I'll be updating with Mom as much as possible and I'm sure she won't mind passing info on to the lot of you. I'll be home safe and sound by the time the race for the pennant starts heating up (Let's go METS!) but will be thinking of all of you on my journeys!
Lots of kangaroo love,
m.

Have a safe trip Maureen! It will be fun to see pictures and hear some stories from your travels. Love, amy
Bye, honey! (sniff...)
In case anyone's wondering about Maureen's reference to "stopping in a well-lit area," this is an old joke from when she was a young driver and I was a nervous mom if she was out at night. My advice to her about stopping in well-lit areas usually drew the response of, "Gee, Mom, I really had planned to stop in dark, dangerous areas overrun with thieves and other ne'er-do-wells"...well, sometimes we can't help but give advice, can we?!
Maureen has done a fantastic job planning her trip and I know she'll have a terrific time.
Good on ya, mate! Have fun in the land "deeahn ahn-duh"!
It might be sunny down under so make sure to bring a bonnet. Have fun Mo I will make sure the Cubs keep winning while you are down there.
Have a terrific trip, Maureen! We'll all be thinking of you.
Love, Aunt Karen
Take plenty of photos, Maureen. You never know when you might be able to use them in a first-grade lesson in the fall...geography, botony, zoology, and maybe even a little math and reading! Be safe and have fun.
Love,
Aunt Geege
